Q: What are “production charges”?

A: “Production” is a generic term for the various steps required to create a photograph after the shutter is closed. Whether it is done digitally or on film, after the exposure is made, there are a number of sometimes-complicated steps that need to be taken in order to prepare a high quality final image. All our digital images are handled by experienced Photoshop professionals. After the image is shot we then download them into our computer system, sort through the files, make proof pages for viewing on CD or our website. After you make your selections we then color and density correct, cleanup and retouch each image. We then find out from you or your printer what specification such as file size, CMYK conversions and file format needed for your print or web job. We ensure that your files are prepared to the highest industry standards in the format you request. We then backup all the original RGB images should you require them at a later time. We start each new project with the original RGB image that can then be repurposed to suit your specific need.You can be assured that all your images will be safe and available for future projects. We have and extensive backup and catagorized filing system for easy retrieval of your images. We also offer a web based search system for our clients that need constant access to their images.We offer digital manipulation, retouching and enhancement services.

Production charges are the charges associated with actually producing your specific job. These charges include:

• Digital shots
  
• Transfer and editing of digital shots
  
• Creating proofs on CD's or website
  
• Color and density corrections of images on a calibrated monitor
  
• CMYK conversions
  
• Storage of images
  
• Any excessive time spent before the shoot on things like set building, scouting, or traveling to the location
  
• Mileage for travel beyond the allotted 20 miles per location or assignment (at or near the rate established by the IRS for tax purpose)
  
• Assistant's fees when necessary
  A Note About Assistants: On certain jobs an assistant is a necessary expense. As a percentage of the total cost of the shoot, the cost of an assistant is usually very small. Assistants are aspiring professional photographers with experience and knowledge in their own right. They provide an extra set of hands and eyes that can solve problems and observe details while the photographer is busy—freeing the photographer to better do what the client is paying for - creating original, inspiring images. In that sense, they are a good deal for the client—a sort of "creative insurance, if you will—and not an unnecessary expense.
